  • Family Stories

    Advising

"Family Stories" is a culmination of my own photographs and images from my family album; a three-year dissection of my family members' everyday lives. In 2011, I began documenting my family members through photography. These pictures showed me something new about each one of them. The lines on their faces had changed; their smiles a little more cautious and their gestures a bit more aware. Over time, I realized how much I had overlooked the moments we shared and felt a distance between us. The camera served as a tool to keep them closer to me.

I began to look at my family album and revisited spaces that my parents often brought us to when we were children. These old photographs also sparked a new direction in my project where I began to tell my family story through traumatic events we experienced as a whole.
