He is the vice provost for Transdisciplinary Initiatives at The New School, where he was founding director (2009-2015) of the graduate program in Transdisciplinary Design at Parsons School of Design. He is also a visiting design researcher at the Institute of Design in Umea, Sweden. With Paola Antonelli at MoMA, he created the award-winning curatorial experiment and book Design and Violence (2013-15). He also collaborated with her at MoMA on HeadSpace: On Scent as Design, on the "Design and the Elastic Mind" symposium, and on the Advisory Committee of the XXII Milan Design Triennial, Broken Nature. Hunt is the co-founder of DesignPhiladelphia, which at that time of its establishment was the country’s largest design week, and he was named one of Fast Company’s “Most Creative People.” Hunt has published more than 20 articles on the poetics and politics of design, including ones for Fast Company and the Huffington Post,  and he is co-author, with Meredith Davis, of  Visual Communication Design. In March 2020, Grand Central Publishing published his book on scale and complex systems entitled Not to Scale: How the Small Becomes Large, the Large Becomes Unthinkable, and the Unthinkable Becomes Possible.
