    This Land is Your Land
    My years in service as an Air Force linguist sparked an interest in American values and ideas surrounding patriotism and Manifest Destiny, which are rooted in hegemonic systems of control and colonization. In This Land Is Your Land, I explore the history of our nation’s national park system and the lands upon which the parks have been created. I examine Americana, nostalgia, and myth and their role in shaping widely held views of the West, land ownership, and recreation. I used 16 mm film, still imagery, and archival footage and artifacts to piece together a history that has long been hidden or at the very least fragmented. I shot motion footage in the style of an old family movie to evoke feelings of nostalgia and suggest the romanticization of our past.
