Profile
Mung Lam Lam is an Artist, Educator and Historian with a multi-disciplinary background in Fashion Design, Global Sourcing/Production/Management, Textiles and Fine Art. She holds an Mphil in Economic and Social History from the University of Cambridge and is affiliated with The Cambridge Group for the History of Population and Social Structure. Her area of continued academic research is the study of women’s occupational history in the textiles sector during the industrial revolution. She also possesses an MFA in Textile Art and undergrad degrees in Textiles and Fashion Design. With twenty years of industry experience as designer of women’s wear in New York and Paris; and executive management for global retail brands such as Gap Inc. and Spiegel Catalog, Lam has been teaching for over ten years and is currently Assistant Professor at Parsons School of Fashion, The New School. She also maintains a studio art practice and has exhibited widely. Her works focuses on the medium of textile traditions to focus on the conditions of the history of labor, gender, women’s work, and the bridge between art, craft and technology.
