As a Part-Time Faculty member at The New School, Keena teaches and mentors students who aspire to become designers and creative artists. She has a Master of Arts degree in Fashion Studies from Parsons, where she developed her research and writing skills related to fat studies, apparel design, and apparel merchandising. Keena has an expertise in size inclusive fashion, a field that challenges the norms and stereotypes of the fashion industry and the design education sector. She has designed and created a size-inclusive swimwear collection that showcases the diversity and beauty of fat bodies. Keena has also written a master’s thesis that examines the discourse around design education and proposes a more human-centered approach that incorporates theory, personal narrative, and technical skills. Her goal is to advocate for people of all sizes and to inspire the next generation of fashion designers to create more equitable and inclusive fashion systems and products.
