Profile
Josh Gritz has robust experience across the building industry. At Clark Construction, he worked out of their Bethesda, MD headquarters as a Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) Engineer before taking the reigns of the VDC Kickstart Program, where he trained cohorts of 5-10 engineers from projects nationwide for 3 months at a time in core BIM skills. He has also worked as a designer on multifamily residential and commercial projects across project stages. Most recently, he worked client-side with Pride Live, in conjunction with EDG Architects, Local Projects, and the National Parks Service, to conceptualize, design, and build the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center (SNMVC), the first in the National Park System to honor LGBTQ history specifically. During this work, he was invited to speak on an AARP panel about the use of the word "queer" across generations, in dialogue with people such as Stonewall rioter and activist Mark Segal. He also helped oversee major design decisions and construction progress, worked closely with corporate donors on the content of their exhibitions, and wrote monthly newsletters about the project. The SNMVC was recently ranked 5th in USA Today's 10 Best New Museums of 2025.
Josh's graduate thesis, and much of his other academic work, explored the relationship of Horror and Humor in the built environment, specifically through his Jewish and Queer identities–a topic he hopes to bring to his practice as he leverages seductive aesthetics to invite whimsical interactions that facilitate unexpected moments of cross-contextual understanding. He was a TA for President Towers' Waste and Justice University Lecture course in 2023 and 2024.
Josh currently works under Matthew Bremer as an architectural designer at Architecture in Formation, where his projects include The Hillside Senior Affordable Passive House Community and the Catskills Borscht Belt Museum.
