Emma Bowen is a design historian and educator who teaches in the School of Art and Design History and Theory at Parsons The New School for Design. As a design historian, she consistently explores how material culture represents the merging of social experience and place and is interested in design as a tool for social change, community empowerment, and sustainable futures. Over the past several years, Emma has collaborated and worked in varying capacities with many artisan-support organizations and businesses, including SURevolution, Anatolian Artisans, Friends of Tilonia, Source4Style, and Faire Collection. She received a Master of Arts degree in the History of Decorative Arts and Design from Parsons, in conjunction with Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, in 2009, and a Bachelor of Arts degree (summa cum laude) in Architectural Studies from Connecticut College in 2001. Emma is a member of the College Art Association and the Ethical Fashion Forum, and is a contributor to HAND/EYE Magazine.
