Patrick Michael Hughes is a Fashion and Decorative Arts Historian with an extensive background as a fashion journalist for branded content in the hyper-digital news sector. He is a Senior Fashion Editor Men's Fashion Writer for an art, photography and fashion magazine based in France.
Following an undergraduate in the History of Art at Manhattanville College he worked in the education department at the Washington National Cathedral. As a graduate student in Paris his courses were in seventeenth and eighteenth century French Royal Decorative Arts and seventeenth- and eighteenth-century French Fashion at Fashion Musée Les Arts Decoratifs-Musée de Louvre. Upon his return to New York his research was centered on nineteenth century fashion and decorative art with a concentration toward English and American dress and interiors. He earned MA in the History of Decorative Arts and Design form the Parsons Cooper -Hewitt Design Museum. Hughes was awarded distinction for his focus in twentieth century American fashion, culture and fashion publication.
His first-year lecture studios in the School of Art and Design History and Theory are knowledge emphasized in design and fashion historical information. He is interested in students being enabled to develop the confidence to design, deliver innovative creative concepts and creative lead that is informed by a critical understanding of narrative and cultural connection. In Hughes' fashion history course offering students are guided through historical and cultural history which includes race, identity, gender fashion communication and intersections in design and decorative arts. Fashion professionals to the fashion curious can reflect on, discuss and strengthen systems and structures unique to their professional goals, fashion identities and practice with a fashion culture awareness.
