    Matt Whitman

    Profile

    Matt Whitman is originally from southeastern PA and lives/works in Brooklyn. In the last year, his 16mm and Super8 films have recently screened at Winnipeg Underground Film Festival, Cosmic Rays in Chapel Hill, NC, Light Matter in Alfred, NY, CROSSROADS in San Francisco, the Mimesis Documentary Film Festival in Boulder, CO, the Brooklyn Film Festival and Light Field 2023 in San Francisco.
                                                                                                           
    In 2023, he was an artist in residence in the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s Arts Center at Governor’s Island and in June he completed a one month residency at the Tides Institute and Museum in Eastport, Maine working with lower-toxicity film processing techniques.

    Research Interests

    Experimental filmmaking, 16mm and Super8 filmmaking, B/W darkroom processes, visual culture studies, time-based media art, artist film/video, history of avant-garde / experimental film
