Julia Gorton

Profile

Julia Gorton is a designer, illustrator, photographer and collaborator. She started her career as a photographer and visual editor of a punk music fanzine, landed her first job as an editorial designer at National Lampoon, worked freelance at Condé ­Nast and art directed at Fairchild Publications. As an illustrator, Julia has over 20 children’s books to her name with various publishing houses including Scholastic, Abrams, Simon and Shuster and Hyperion Books for Children.

She is currently the Director of Graphic Design and Printmaking, and has been a member of the Communication Design faculty for over 20 years and was recently recognized as one of 15 Notable Art Professors in New York City by The Art Career Project.

Julia had work in MoMa's Designing Modern Women 1890-1990 show last year, and is currently represented in Making Music Modern: Design for Ear and Eye in the Architecture and Design Galleries on the third floor.
