    Media Studies
  • Founded in 1975, the Media Studies program at The New School was the first master’s program in the subject in the United States and quickly attracted media makers, theorists, and innovators. The New School established the School of Media Studies in 2011, bringing together its offerings and expanding them to include graduate programs in media management and documentary studies and an undergraduate degree in media studies. The school’s tradition of challenging students to transcend convention made it a center of creative experimentation.

Today our university’s graduate programs are housed at Parsons School of Design, and an undergraduate program is offered to adult learners through the Bachelor’s Program for Adults and Transfer Students. All students have opportunities to collaborate with peers throughout the university and learn with faculty who work in media and share their insights and resources. Join our community of diverse makers from around the world who are carrying forward a legacy of innovative creative and critical media work.
