    Profile

Sasha Kaoru Zamler-Carhart (they/them) is a singer, writer, medievalist, composer/designer, and formerly a linguist and a lawyer. They teach at Mannes and Parsons.

Their artisic practice is research-based and reversible like an air conditioner. Sometimes it's forensic and archeological, and pointed at dissecting an existing object: this is their work as a medievalist and music historian analyzing repertoires as design projects (and formerly as a linguist). Sometimes the same machine is toggled to output and is used to make a design object: this is their work as a composer, designer, and writer (and formerly as a lawyer).

Before joining The New School they founded and led the Medieval Music program at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague, The Netherlands, and were artistic director of The Ascoli Ensemble, a vocal ensemble for medieval polyphony. They used to be a lawyer specialized in international tax issues.
