If this is your first time living in a residence hall, welcome! You will find this page especially helpful as you plan to move in. It includes information about dining on campus, what to bring (and not to bring), transportation in and around the city, parking maps, and more.
All first-year undergraduate students living in on-campus housing will have a mandatory dining plan for both semesters of their first year (two semesters). These students will be automatically enrolled in the Two plan but may opt to upgrade to the Three
plan if they prefer.
Continuing, transfer, and graduate students who live on campus will also be automatically enrolled in the Two plan but may elect to participate in any of the four dining plans or opt out of the dining plan program entirely.
The deadline
for making changes to your dining plan selection for fall 2025 is September 8, 2025. Visit the Meal Plan page to learn more about each plan and how to change your selection.
If you will be living in university housing, you must show proof of immunity against meningitis ACWY before you will be permitted to move into the residence hall. Students living in university housing are not eligible to decline the meningitis ACWY unless they have a valid medical or religious exemption on file. More information about where to submit your records can be found on the Immunizations page. Please refer to it to make sure all required documentation is uploaded before your arrival. For specific questions related to immunizations, please contact Student Health Services directly at shs@newschool.edu.
The dates and procedures for check-in and check-out are important. For the 2025–2026 academic year, students will select an appointment time to move in. General move-in dates for each semester are available on our important dates timeline.
Whether you are leaving in the middle of a semester or at the conclusion of your housing agreement, you should plan to properly check out of your residence hall. Detailed information will be sent to all students about the move-out process close to the end of their contract agreement. Please contact your residence hall director for check-out information.
