Work-Study

The Federal Work-Study Program (FWS) subsidizes part-time employment opportunities for students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help cover their expenses while they study at a participating college or university. The money earned through FWS is paid directly to students as wages from part-time work in an approved FWS position. It is not applied directly to students' balance.

  • To apply for an FWS award, you must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  • If you receive an FWS award, you must secure a position as soon as possible. Contact fws@newschool.edu if you are having difficulty finding a position. 
  • You can search for on-campus FWS jobs for the upcoming school year at careers.newschool.edu after you receive your FWS eligibility letter.
  • While most FWS positions are on campus, you may also work at one of our off-campus partner organizations. For a list of partner organizations, please see Federal Work-Study Off-Campus Employers.
  • If you would like to work at an off-campus site that is not listed as a partner organization or if you have questions about your FWS position, please contact fws@newschool.edu for more information.
  • This funding cannot be guaranteed, as the annual federal allocation provided to The New School fluctuates from year to year.
