Proficiency Assessment

The center administers English language proficiency assessments of more than 1,000 students and visiting scholars per year, including:

  • The English Language Placement test for all new Parsons, College of Performing Arts, and Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts international students whose first language is not English to assess their need for language support.
  • Proof of language proficiency for visiting scholars (for J-1 eligibility). To schedule a language assessment interview, fill out this form.
  • Proficiency assessment for admission to a degree program upon request by an admission officer.

For questions about testing, please contact Jeremy Scott at scottj@newschool.edu.

We also offers academic departments, offices, and stakeholders consultation on:

  • English language proficiency requirements and policy for programs across the university
  • Understanding and comparing scores on the most common standardized tests of English proficiency (TOEFL, DET, IELTS, etc.)
