newcard is the official identification card of The New School. With the newcard, the university community can conveniently use one card to utilize on-campus dining services (i.e. balance meal plan) as well as gain entry to buildings and to services at selected campus facilities including Academic Technology Labs, Libraries and events. The newcard must be carried at all times.

In order to obtain a newcard you must be a currently registered student, active faculty, administrative or staff member. If you are not an incoming freshman you must visit Campus Card Services (66 West 12th Street, Room 409) with a valid picture I.D (state drivers license, state photo I.D, or passport) and/or a Campus Card Authorization form (employees can get this form from human resources). We will verify your eligibility, take your picture, and present you with a newcard.

All new students have the option of visiting Campus Card Services for a newcard but the best way to obtain your newcard is to submit a digital photo via email. Digital photos are accepted up until the last week before the opening of each semester.

If you choose to send in your digital photo, your card will be pre-printed, encoded, and ready for pick up when you arrive on campus.  No waiting in line!

You can submit a digital photo (.jpg format only) to newcard@newschool.edu.  Include your name, “N” number and Residence Hall (if applicable) in the body of the email.  Please make sure that these rules are followed:

• Head shot should be positioned directly facing the camera.
• Photo should capture from slightly above top of hair to middle of chest.
• Eyes should be open and facing the camera.
• Eyeglasses should be worn if normally used by subject. Glare on eyeglasses can usually be avoided with a slight upward or downward tilt of the head.
• Background should be white or off-white.
• Include headpieces if worn daily for religious purposes; they should not obscure or cast shadows on the eyes or any other part of the face.

Whether you have your newcard preprinted or have one produced while you wait, you will need to have a government issued photo ID (Drivers license, Passport, etc.) with you when you pick up your newcard.

Monday          9:00am to 5:30pm
Tuesday         9:00am to 5:30pm
Wednesday    9:00am to 6:00pm
Thursday       9:00am to 5:30pm
Friday            9:00am to 4:30pm
