Daniel Dayan  is Directeur de Recherche at  the Centre National de la Recherche  Scientifique ,  Paris, ;   a fellow of  the  Marcel   Mauss  Institute    ( Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences  Sociales ) and a  Professor of  Media Sociology  at  the University of Geneva .  He holds degrees  in Anthropology, Comparative literature,  Semiotics and  film studies from  Stanford  University, The Sorbonne  and    Ecole des Hautes  Etudes en Sciences  Sociales, where he received a  Ph.D in Aesthetics .
