Global Studies (Minor)

Overview

The Global Studies minor is offered through Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts. In this interdisciplinary program, students focus on contemporary challenges that by definition cannot be solved solely at the nation-state or market level. Global Studies is about social transformation and justice. Students are encouraged to not only improve existing systems but gain knowledge and experience to change them. 

A student who has completed this minor should be able to demonstrate:

• The ability to critically evaluate the role of multiple causal factors in the analysis of global issues and dynamics
• The ability to draw on theories, principles, and knowledge from more than one discipline to address a specific global problem or dynamic
• A solid understanding of one or more contemporary global social or political concerns
• The ability to critically evaluate forms of global order
• A solid understanding of the construction of identities and the challenges of achieving global justice and governing global flows of people, goods, money, and information
• The ability to conduct research and communicate findings effectively
• The ability to make a convincing scholarly argument that is relevant to the specific field of inquiry

The minor in Global Studies requires completion of 18-22 credits outlined as follows. Course availability may vary from semester to semester. Some courses may be in development and offered at a later time. Consult the university course catalog for fall 2026 course offerings. Students seeking to pursue alternative coursework to fulfill the minor should consult with their advisors.

Students must earn a grade of C or higher in all courses to fulfill the minor.

Eligibility

The Global Studies minor is available to undergraduate students across The New School, with the exception of students enrolled in the BA in Global Studies.
