• Health and Dental Eligibility

A part-time faculty member (other than part-time faculty teaching in the School of Jazz) may participate in the university's health care and dental care plans if he or she meets the eligibility requirements set forth in the collective bargaining agreement between the university and ACT-UAW. A key criterion is that part-time faculty members must teach at the university for at least one academic year before becoming eligible for health care and/or dental care coverage. Therefore, newly hired part-time faculty members are not eligible for coverage during the first year of their employment with the university. Please review the Benefits Eligibility Criteria Checklist to determine whether you are eligible for health care and dental care coverage under The New School's plan. Part-time faculty members who teach at Mannes are subject to a different set of criteria. Mannes part-time faculty members should review the Mannes Part-Time Faculty Benefits Eligibility Criteria Checklist to determine whether they are eligible for health care and dental care coverage under The New School's plan.

Part-time classroom faculty who teach at the School of Jazz and who are members of Local 802, AFM, AFL-CIO, must meet the eligibility criteria outlined in the university's contract with Local 802, in conjunction with the Memorandum of Agreement (PDF). Review the Local 802 Jazz Benefits Eligibility Criteria Checklist. If eligible, they may participate in the university's health care and dental care plans or in the Musician's Local Health Benefit Plan, which is administered by Local 802. Note: Part-time classroom faculty at the School of Jazz are not eligible for the health care flexible spending account. Part-time faculty members who teach at the School of Jazz but who do not teach in the classroom and are not members of Local 802 are not eligible to participate in the university's health care and dental care plans. They are eligible for the benefits highlighted here.
