Graduation and PhD Guidelines
Graduation and Awarding of Degrees
Graduation Petitions and Fees
The New School confers degrees twice a year, in January and May. The commencement ceremony for both May and January graduates is held in May. All degree requirements, as specified in the NSSR catalog, must be completed before the graduation date in order for a degree to be conferred (including the internship for clinical psychology students).
Students intending to graduate must petition online at my.newschool.edu or file a graduation petition form (see link on the right) with the Registrar's Office by the registrar's deadline. You must submit the petition even if you do not plan to attend a graduation ceremony. Visit the registrar's graduation page for more information, including deadline dates for petitions.
PhD Dissertation Guidelines
PhD students who are ready to defend their dissertations should refer to the PhD Handbook (PDF) for policies, procedures, deadlines, and guidelines. Completed dissertations must be submitted electronically.
