Dear Friends and Colleagues: We are sad to report the passing away of beloved Aristide R. Zolberg, Professor of Politics, University in Exile Professor Emeritus, and former ICMEC founder and director on Friday, April 12, 2013. Professor Zolberg's obituary was published in the New York Times and by The New School New_s.
The
International Center for Migration, Ethnicity, and Citizenship at The New School (ICMEC), founded in 1993, is a
collaborative undertaking engaged in interdisciplinary scholarly research,
public policy analysis, and education bearing on international migration,
refugees, and the incorporation of newcomers into host societies. The center's research and policy analysis includes the causes of
migration and refugee flows, the effects of immigration and emigration on the politics
and policies of sending, transit, and receiving countries, the global governance
of migration, and the implications of these phenomena for contemporary notions
of sovereignty and citizenship. The center hosts conferences, workshops, and
community forums that bring together international and area
scholars, practitioners, and policy makers to develop collaborative projects and promote dialogue on migration issues.
