  • Guidelines

    • Minors are available to undergraduate students across The New School except those students at Lang and the Bachelors Program for Adults and Transfer Students who are completing a self-designed BA or BS in Liberal Arts, who are not permitted to declare minors. For students at Lang or the Bachelors Program for Adults and Transfer Students interested in pursuing a deeper study of this subject area, opportunities are available through the self-designed major in Liberal Arts. To explore this, contact an academic advisor or read more information about self-designed options for Lang or the Bachelors Program for Adults and Transfer Students.
    • Students must first declare a major before declaring a minor
    • Students can declare up to two minors
    • Students are encouraged to successfully complete two courses required by the minor before formally declaring a minor
    • Students must earn the required minimum grades to apply courses toward a minor (grade requirements and other policies are set by the minor's divisional home)
    • Students can retroactively apply successfully completed courses toward a minor up until the time their degree is conferred
    • Students are not permitted to take majors and minors that are too similar for students to declare both. See the list of majors that preclude minors below

  • Declare or Apply to a Minor

Declare a minor by filling out the form at my.newschool.edu.

For some minors, eligibility may be restricted on the basis of area of study, because of constraints on facilities, or by the need for a specific level of skill in a particular field; in such cases, an application is required (as indicated in "Available Minors" listing above).  For these minors, complete the application form at my.newschool.edu.
