The modern philosophers will include Montaigne, Rousseau, Kierkegaard, Emerson, Nietzsche, probably Marx and certainly Heidegger; among the ancient philosophers considered are likely to be Socrates, Plato, Diogenes the Cynic, Epicurus, Pyrrho, Seneca, and Augustine.
