• History (Minor)

  • Overview

The History minor is offered through Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts.

Lang's History program offers a dynamic approach to engagement with the past. Students are trained in historical research and approach history critically using multidisciplinary tools. Learn more about the History program.

    Curriculum

The minor in History requires the completion of 5 courses, distributed as follows, and a minimum of 18 credits.* See the university course catalog for spring 2025 History courses that fulfill these requirements, and use the History minor worksheet to track your progress.

    • 2 introductory LHIS courses (7–8 credits). With advance approval, these requirements can be fulfilled by a First-Year Seminar and/or ULEC courses taught by history instructors.
    • 2 additional LHIS courses (total 8 credits). At least one must be at the 3000 level or higher. One of the courses can be at another college or in another Lang program, provided it has historical context and is approved by the program advisor. One of the courses must be either of the following:
    • 1 thematically related course from outside of the History program (non-LHIS) (3–4 credits)

    Total credits: 18-20
*Two of the history courses and the non-history course must constitute a thematic cluster, as determined in consultation with the department advisor.

Students must receive a grade of C or better in all courses taken to fulfill the minor.
