Understanding Cost of Attendance
The Cost of Attendance is not a bill. It is an estimate of the total costs incurred by a typical student who attends during an academic year. Students who face additional costs, such as dependent care, disability, or technology, are encouraged to contact the Financial Aid Office to inquire about increasing their Cost of Attendance and overall borrowing eligibility.
- Tuition: The direct cost of taking classes. Tuition is billed by the Office of Student Accounts.
- Fees: Costs associated with enrolling at The New School. General fees are charged to all students; specific fees are associated with particular majors.
- Loan Fees: If you accept a Federal Direct Subsidized or Unsubsidized Loan, your Cost of Attendance will include your loan origination fees. You can read more about federal loan fees here.
- Living Expenses: This figure is the cost of living, including food, for an on- or off-campus student. On-campus housing and meal plans are billed by The New School's Office of Student Accounts;
off-campus housing and food are not. Click here for more housing and food information.
