The New School offers a university-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan. It is an Aetna Open Choice PPO plan administered by Aetna Student Health. The plan covers basic medical, surgical, and hospital costs for accidents and sicknesses that occur 24 hours a day, worldwide.

Plan Highlights

• Annual fee for the accident and sickness plan is $1,714 billed in two (2) installments fall: $691, spring: $1,023
• Student Health Services Fee is $250 per semester
• Medical and mental health coverage available from August 20, 2009 through August 20, 2010
• Aggregate per-condition maximum: $500,000 (Plan 2)
• Annual plan deductible: $100
• Prescription benefits: $800 prescription maximum per policy year
• Use of preferred care pharmacy: 100% of the negotiated charge after a $10 co-pay for each generic prescription drug and $20 co-pay for each brand-name prescription drug
• Non-preferred care pharmacy: 70% of the reasonable charge after a $10 co-pay for each generic prescription drug and a $20 co-pay for each brand-name prescription drug
• Medications not covered by this benefit include, but are not limited to, drugs whose sole purpose is to promote or to stimulate hair growth, appetite suppressants, smoking deterrents, immunization agents and vaccines, and non-self injectables
• Prior authorization is required for growth hormones and drugs that are used for the treatment of malaria
