Mr. Turner graduated cum laude from the University of Cincinnati and studied in New York University’s MFA in Film program. Before joining the New School faculty, Mr. Turner taught film production and film studies at the City University of New York and Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia.

Mr. Turner’s passion for storytelling is evident in all his work, beginning with his role in the seminal Spike Lee film She’s Gotta Have It. An Emmy-nominated director, Mr. Turner has worked for more than 20 years as a producer, director, and writer of commercials, music videos, and public service announcements through his Burnt Toast Films production company. He won a CLIO Award for his direction of Et Tu Brutus and the Kora All-Africa Award for Best Director for his work with the Parisian supergroup Bisso Na Bisso. Mr. Turner recently produced the television series Sharp Talk, hosted by the Rev. Al Sharpton, and the documentary No Justice, No Peace, a film exploring police misconduct and the U.S. criminal justice system.
