Applicants are invited to audition or interview based on New School
Acceptd submissions; not all applicants will receive an invitation.
Acceptance into the program requires an audition in addition to all other materials. Please prepare two one-minute monologues, one from a contemporary dramatic work (1960s-present) and the other from a classical one (Greek or Roman, Elizabethan, Shakespeare, etc.). A table and two chairs will be provided for the audition. If you feel your performance requires props, keep them to a minimum; you are responsible for providing any props you require. Wear clothes that suggest what is appropriate for the character you are portraying, but keep in mind that costumes are strongly discouraged as are dialects.
Acceptance into the program requires submission of samples of your writing in addition to all other materials. Required: one full-length play. Optional: an additional one-act play. All playwright interviews take place at the school with a member of the Playwriting faculty, and it is expected that applicants who are invited to interview for the program will make plans to travel to New York.
Acceptance into the program requires submission of a director’s portfolio in addition to all other materials. All Portfolio materials will be submitted through
Acceptd. It will not be possible to consider a directing application without the submission of a portfolio. All director interviews take place at the school with a member of the Directing faculty, and it will be necessary to travel to New York for this phase of the application process.
