Each student's curriculum, designed in consultation with the director of Academic Advisement, is developed to enhance professional performance or compositional skills. All courses taken for diploma credit must be graduate-level Mannes courses.
Although all Mannes and some New School courses are available to professional studies students, only graduate credits earned at Mannes may be applied toward the diploma.
Qualifying tests are required for admission into some courses. A performance jury is required in the appropriate concentrations during each year of residency. Students concentrating in an orchestral instrument are required to participate in The Mannes Orchestra, ensembles, and repertory classes during each semester of residency; some are required to participate in chamber music.
