The Mannes Prep Honors Program is designed to motivate the serious and gifted musician who wishes a rigorous curriculum and a graded jury examination. Honors students receive a small merit scholarship and a yearly certificate at Graduation Exercises in May, provided they have maintained at least a B grade. Honors students are expected to maintain a consistently high standard of performance, take a full program of courses (including specific curricular requirements), and be an active presence in the division's concerts and ensembles. There is a special honors recital in the spring, and a solo or shared recital is expected in the senior year. Additionally, Honors Program students are often invited to perform in special events and festivals throughout the school year.
Students in the Junior or Senior Programs are nominated for the Honors Program by their major teacher; audition is by jury, generally in the second week of May.
