With courses such as "The Literature of Social Movements" and "The Evolution of the Book," Lang’s literature program isn’t the typical English major. Yes, there are courses in British and U.S. fiction and poetry, but there are also courses in Caribbean and Spanish-American literature, African-American and Asian literature, and Eastern European and Russian literature, courses on children’s narratives and stories of the devil, and courses on the classics, written by Dante, Boccaccio, Homer, and Cao Xueqin. Students learn essential skills in close reading and textual analysis, writing, and argumentation, while developing a broad grasp of literary creation and thought from around the globe.
