Lang’s history program isn’t just about the past. It's also about the present. History at Lang is distinguished by an examination of the past to understand the present and improve the future. To investigate the social, political, and economic effects of the past on the present, Lang has established unique partnerships with other New York City institutions, which provide research opportunities and internships. This year, for instance, the curators of a major exhibition on slavery at the New-York Historical Society taught a course that allowed students to handle original documents and artifacts to help them reckon with this controversial period in the past and understand the place we live in now. In addition to these collaborations, the history program offers numerous courses in U.S., women’s, European, Latin American, and Asian histories—both past and present.
