Profile:
Dr. Louise Montello, LP, LCAT, MT-BC, is a board-certified music therapist and psychoanalyst and an internationally known authority on the treatment and prevention of stress in performing artists and other professionals, as well as the use of psychodynamic music therapy in treating traumatized adults and children. Having worked as a music therapy consultant for Boards of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) for more than ten years, Dr. Montello now consults with the New York City Education Department and offers professional development programs in arts integration and emotional intelligence through the arts for teachers and administrators. In addition, she offers trainings on integrating the arts in healthcare for both patients and staff for the Visiting Nurse Service of New York (VNSNY) and the Health and Hospital Corporation (HCC). A former research scientist in the psychology department at New York University, Dr. Montello founded the Creative Arts Therapy Program at The New School. She is also Clinical Director of the not-for-profit organization, Performance Wellness, Inc., which is dedicated to using the curative power of music—along with cutting-edge tools from neuropsychology, behavioral medicine, and yoga science—to meet the mind-body health needs of performers and professionals in a variety of fields. Dr. Montello has published numerous articles on stress management and self-care for performing artists and high-profile professionals and has been invited featured in many magazine articles and blogs, radio and TV shows.
