Christopher
Roselli, bass-baritone, has performed in a wide range of musical genre and
performing media including opera, oratorio, music theater, concert, recital,
film, television, radio, and recording. His operatic experience includes
performing over forty roles with opera companies throughout the United States
including such roles as Scarpia in Tosca, Count Almaviva in Le
nozze di Figaro, the title role in Don Giovanni, the Bonze in Madama
Butterfly, Colline in La Bohème, Ramphis and the King in Aida,
Timur in Turandot, Zuniga in Carmen, Raimondo and Enrico in Lucia
di Lammermoor, and Alidoro in La Cenerentola. He has performed in
Robert Wilson’s Metropolitan Opera production of Lohengrin, Julie Taymor’s
production of Grendel, Peter Sellars’ The Tristan Project, Sir Jonathan
Miller’s staged production of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, and Mark
Morris’ production of Four Saints in Three Acts. His
concert engagements have included national and international tours in Germany,
Austria, France, Switzerland, Denmark, Italy, and Israel. He has made
appearances at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall, Brooklyn
Academy of Music, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Recent
performances included Don Giovanni at the Verbier Music
Festival in Verbier, Switzerland, Faust and Hairspray at Colorado
College, and a Wagner Festival at Bard College.
Roselli
has sung in many ensembles in and around New York City including the
Metropolitan Opera, Voices of Ascension, New York Choral Artists, Musica Sacra,
New York Collegium and the Concert Chorale of New York. Many of these
performances included collaborations with internationally acclaimed orchestras
and ensembles including the New York Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Los
Angeles Philharmonic, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, the Israel Philharmonic, the
Kronos Quartet, the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and the American Symphony
Orchestra. He has recorded with many of these groups and in 2005, the recording
of John Adams’ On the Transmigration of Souls won three Grammy Awards
including Best Classical Recording. The film recording, The Fountain, was
nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score. In 2007,
Christopher performed in the ensemble of the critically acclaimed Lincoln
Center production of My Fair Lady starring Kelsey
Grammar, Kelli O’Hara, Brian Dennehy and Marni Nixon.
In
addition to his varied performing credits, Dr. Roselli is a member of the voice
faculties at New York University, CAP21, the New School for Drama and The Lee
Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. During the summer he serves on the voice
faculty of Colorado College’s Vocal Arts Symposium. Dr. Roselli is a member of
the Board of Directors for NATS NYC. He has also taught at Westminster Choir
College of Rider University and the Actors Studio Drama School. He is the
recipient of the New School’s 2007 Distinguished University Excellence in
Teaching Award. His students are performing on Broadway, off-Broadway, in
Broadways tours, television and film. Finally, Christopher received his Doctor
of Music degree from Indiana University.
