Theater at Lang is a liberal arts program that provides you with a grounding in acting, directing, and playwriting, from the classics to contemporary and experimental innovations in performance. As a scholar and artist, you examine theater as a mode of cultivating meaning, investigate the relationship between theater and social justice, and interrogate the role of theater in our current historical moment.
As a Theater student at Lang, you explore theater practice and scholarship through innovative approaches, including interdisciplinary and global perspectives, with an emphasis on civic engagement and social justice. The curriculum combines performance and production opportunities with seminars in theater history, theory, and dramatic literature. The program carries forward The New School's tradition of progressive education through intellectual and artistic inquiry while posing questions about today's critical issues that demand immediate attention.
Theater students at Lang can also benefit from connections to The New School's professional dramatic arts college, the School of Drama, which offers an extensive program of performances, lectures, seminars, and conferences.

If you are planning to pursue graduate studies, consider majoring in The Arts and applying to the Bachelor's-Master's program, which enables you to earn graduate credits that will apply to both your Lang degree and a master's degree in Liberal Studies at The New School for Social Research.

Ugurlu conceived of and is directing the work, part of the Creatures Project, "a two-week inhabitation of [La MaMa] . . . about liminal beings as they manifest across cultures."
Yu Ling came to The New School with a range of interests and graduated with a BFA in Integrated Design, a BA in Theater, and a minor in Race and Ethnicity.
