Photographer Spencer Ostrander was granted privileged access to the Nichols-Chambers household to document the story of Tyler Nichols, who was murdered in a senseless act of street violence. Over the course of the next several months, he conducted one-on-one interviews with the members of the household and with Tyler's closest friends and compiled a large dossier of photographic portraits of all the people involved in the story.
The result is an astonishing ensemble of pictures and words that transforms the cold statistics of street violence in the United States into vivid, aching reality by focusing on one family, one person, one lost life. The authors titled the book Long Live King Kobe, after the foundation set up by Tyler Nichols' mother, Sherma Chambers, whose mission is to combat street violence through compassionate initiatives and to offer support to the families of victims.
All proceeds from the book will be donated to the cause.
