Last night, an incendiary device exploded in a dumpster on W. 23rd Street, between Sixth and Seventh Avenues, with a second device found on W. 27th Street. Law enforcement is actively investigating the situation. While we are thankful that no one from our New School community was among the physically injured, our thoughts go out to all those who were impacted by this event.
All New School activities remain on a normal schedule, though please allow extra time and be mindful when traveling to and from campus. We expect an increased police presence and changes in transit and traffic patterns, as well as limited access in the vicinity of the explosion.
We encourage anyone needing compassionate support to contact:
Student Health Services: 212-229-1671
Employee Assistance Program: 888-293-6948
As always, any security concerns should be reported to Campus Safety: 212-229-7001.
While authorities do not believe there is an ongoing threat, we are closely monitoring the situation. Our security team will be on heightened alert and will remain in close contact with the NYPD. We will update you with any substantive changes.
