Filip Noterdaeme is intent on fostering a meaningful and rewarding dialogue between art and viewer based on respect for the creative process, critical thinking, and an understanding of cultural history. For Noterdaeme, art should never be subjected to the fickle superficial values and market-driven speculations of a growing art industry but rather inspire everyone to open their minds, refine their lives, and learn empathy. He is primarily interested in artistic practices and models that challenge the mainstream rather than bow down to it.

Noterdaeme is a museum educator at the Guggenheim Museum and frequently lectures at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art. His teaching at Eugene Lang College has centered on the history of the avant-garde, modernism, institutional critique, and museum studies.

He is the artist behind the conceptual art project known as The Homeless Museum of Art and the author of The Autobiography of Daniel J. Isengart (Outpost19, 2013). He also writes a blog on contemporary art for the Huffington Post.

In 2003, Filip Noterdaeme founded the Homeless Museum of Art, a conceptual art project that exposes the sellout of cultural institutions to commerce, cronyism, and real estate, via interactive installations, video and performance, as well as writing projects.
