Advisement for First-year Students
The Support of Academic Advisors
As Academic Advisors, we are available to provide you with academic and administrative support throughout your time at Lang. In addition to guiding you through the registration process, we can advise you about the academic resources and extracurricular programs, including study abroad, internships, and our student union. We can also help you access valuable services throughout The New School. We are here to respond to any questions and concerns you have about college.
The Mentorship of Faculty Advisors
At Eugene Lang College, students often have more academic freedom than at other institutions. This freedom reinforces the importance of your advisement. In addition to a designated class advisor, you receive a faculty advisor to provide you with guidance and mentorship as you make important decisions. We encourage you to develop a relationship with your faculty advisor by discussing more than just prospective courses. The faculty advisors are available to discuss your future, including relevant career fields and graduate programs.
The Importance of Seminar Fellows
As a first-year student, you also have an assigned Seminar Fellow, an upper-level student trained to help you throughout the educational transition to Lang. The Seminar Fellows also lead the first-year workshops designed to help you build skills in time management, develop good study habits, learn critical thinking and seminar discussion techniques, and protect your health and safety. Feel free to reach out to your seminar fellow when you have questions or concerns about college and city life.
