Professor Wagner was trained as an economist at the University of Zurich (Switzerland) and at the Center for Research in Economic Development at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor (USA). In addition to his doctorate in economics, he also holds a Master in Theology from the University of Fribourg (Switzerland). He has taught Social Policy at the University of Zurich and served as the Dean of the School of Social Work from 1975 to 1999. Courses Taught:
From 1996 to 2000, he was the President of the International Society for Third Sector Research, a leading scholarly institution in the nonprofit field. He has served as a consultant on social security related issues to the Swiss Federal Statistical Office and the World Bank in Washington. Wagner is a member of the editorial board of several international journals and has widely published on the welfare state and civil society in English, German and French.
