Konstantine J. Rountos is a marine ecologist and conservation scientist who has worked on a number of domestic and international research projects examining 1) the effects of anthropogenic pollution and modification on coastal marine ecosystems and resources, 2) the economic and ecological importance of forage fish species (e.g. anchovies, sardines, herrings, etc), and 3) the pursuit of sustainable seafood (e.g. offshore aquaculture). He has taught as a Part-Time Lecturer at The New School since 2011. In 2007, Rountos was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to 1) conduct independent research on the effects of fish farming in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea and 2) offer public environmental education seminars in local communities throughout Greece. From 2014-2016, Rountos worked as a Senior Postdoctoral scientist on the Shinnecock Bay Restoration Program in Southampton, NY. Rountos is currently an Assistant Professor of Biology at St. Joseph’s College in Patchogue, NY. Rountos volunteers annually at the Bay Scallop Bowl (a regional high school marine science competition), the Patchogue River Clean Up, and has served as the Treasurer for the Estuaries Section of the American Fisheries Society since 2014. He and his wife do their best to live sustainably on the beautiful South Shore of Long Island.
