• DEACTIVATED - Daniel Bustillo: Executive Director of the Healthcare Advancement Program

  • The MS in Organizational Change Management program from the Milano School of Policy, Management, and Environment changed the course of Daniel Bustillo's career. Before he began studying at The New School, Bustillo worked as a labor management consultant. Today he is the executive director of the Healthcare Advancement Program (H-CAP), a national organization of SEIU unions and healthcare employers who have partnered to promote the development of innovative career pathways and quality healthcare career education models.
Bustillo says it was the course Racial Economic Disparities that pushed him in a different direction. The course broadened his perspective on equity and provided “rigorous analytical frameworks” for the work he is now doing with H-CAP. Working with Milano faculty helped Bustillo understand policy and practice “at a deeper level.” In addition to eye-opening coursework, Bastillo remembers ample opportunity to practice student organizing and “clarify our frameworks related to equity” during his time at Milano. In his work now, he regularly use these frameworks.

Bustillo has truly put his degree to work: Along with serving as executive director, he is also the vice president of the H-CAP Education Association and the director of the National Center for Healthcare Apprenticeships (NCHA), where he has played a leading role in developing registered apprenticeships in healthcare across the nation. Bustillo presently serves as a member of the National Advisory Council of the National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education at the University of Minnesota, the National Industry Advisory Council of JFF's Center for Apprenticeship and Work-Based Learning, and a member of the board of directors of the National Skills Coalition. He is currently a PhD student in social policy at Columbia University.
