Fashion Studies (MA), 2024
This thesis examines the impact of Eastern and Western beauty norms and societal pressures on the aesthetic ideals of contemporary Taiwanese women. In addition, in the contemporary age of technological progress, the widespread use of social media platforms and the availability of numerous affordable and convenient retouching software have contributed to their popularity. My research investigates the characteristics of commonly used photo retouching programs and filters in Taiwan, as well as the manner in which they enhance the appearance of images. This investigation is supported by visual analysis, discourse analysis, and in-depth interviews with fifteen Taiwanese women.
