Design and Technology BFA

In the Design and Technology BFA program at Parsons, code becomes your second language and an expressive way to connect with others. Choose one of two pathways — Game Design or Creative Technology — and solve design problems by remixing software, hardware, art, and design in new and creative ways. Experiment with AI, VR, Unity, bioart, TouchDesigner, and more. You develop a sustainable process for researching, experimenting, designing, prototyping, iterating, and producing projects that keep pace with evolving technology. 

Program Highlights

  • Game Design Pathway
    Explore critical game design processes, from brainstorming to publication, with an emphasis on the crucial roles of aesthetics and cultural influences in shaping engaging player experience. 
  • Creative Technology Pathway
    Combine physical computing, coding, user experience, responsive environment, and immersion technology to develop innovative design solutions and creative expression.
  • Original Projects
    Work on projects ranging from wearable technology and socially conscious video games to digital art and products that address accessibility.
  • Industry Insights
    Visit and engage in projects with industry leaders and organizations like Apple, Atari, Rockwell Interaction Lab, Eyebeam Art & Technology Center, MTV, Nickelodeon, Siemens, and UNESCO.

Curriculum

Your BFA begins with Parsons’ first-year curriculum, which serves as the academic foundation for all undergraduate programs at Parsons. From your second year on, you dive into courses in your major field of study. Art and design history and theory courses develop your research, writing, and critical reasoning  skills, and university electives broaden your perspectives.

Career Paths

Graduates of the BFA Design and Technology program are equipped for careers in game design, virtual reality and immersive experience design, motion graphics, animation, video production, front- and back-end Web design, design research, and graphic arts.
