Where are you from, and where did you grow up?
I'm from Detroit, Michigan. That's where I grew up.
Do you feel at home in Paris?
I feel at home in Paris. I actually feel like I've been here all along.
How does Paris inspire you in your work?
Paris inspires me in so many ways. There really isn't a better city to study in. There are so many historic museums and buildings that we read about in our studies, and we can go to see where the artists and designers got their inspiration. It's a wonderful experience being here. Every day makes me want to write something new.
What classes are you enjoying this semester?
I'm enjoying the Fashion Key Concepts course. It's one of the foundational courses we have to take as first-year students. I enjoy the reading and the projects we have for that class.
What attracted you to the Fashion Studies program?
I was looking for a program that allowed me to study multiple disciplines at one time as they relate to fashion. I saw the work alumni Kim Jenkins, Rachel Fenderson, and Rikki Bryd did in and after the Fashion Studies program and instantly thought this was something for me. My dream of living in Paris also helped with my decision as well.
What does your typical weekend look like?
Typically my weekends have consisted of me wandering around my neighborhood in the second arrondissement finding different shops, cafés, and small art galleries to explore. Since we've been in lockdown I've been mostly at home, catching up on TV shows and video-calling family and friends.
Do you have any hobbies?
I love to collect and make vintage T-shirts outside of school. It's been a hobby of mine for the last few years.
What advice would you give incoming students?
I would tell incoming students to be yourself, and make what you want to study known to your professors and program director. Everyone here is super-helpful and very supportive. There is nothing you can't do! Also make use of the alumni pages and try to reach out to past students. They have a wealth of knowledge that can help you stay on track with your courses or get ahead in some cases, because they've been where you are before and know exactly how to direct you if you need help.
