Advising

The artistic performance Something Borrowed, Something Blue, Something New was the experimental result of a collaborative design project led by Violeta Sanchez and involved 16 fashion design students of different cultural backgrounds. The students investigated their cultural backgrounds through various elements of dress cultures as valuable fragmented narratives that contribute together to unexpected interpretations for innovative design. Giving a second life to luxury textiles provided by Maison Yves Delorme, they immersed themselves in various cultures to reconstitute cutting, shaping, and assembling operations that go beyond the conventional geographies of the official history, techniques, systems and objects of Western fashion. On February 27, 2019 at the Centre National de la Dance, equipped only with scissors, the students draped, knotted, folded and cut the fabric before a live audience, expressing the revelations of their cultural investigations through unexpected and graceful transformations.
