Sofia Scoular Castillo

I am an international multimedia artist from New York who explores identity and memory through interactive experiences. In my work, I often reflect on how personal history spans places, cultures, and moments in time. My thesis project—Water, is taught by thirst—is a nine-panel installation mapping my journey through identity. Each panel represents a country connected to my life: the United States, Switzerland, Peru, Paraguay, Croatia, France, Australia, Nicaragua, and Spain. Each panel is distinct but is linked to the others, suggesting the way separate experiences can still form a cohesive whole. In the visuals, geometric shapes meet fluid, organic forms, echoing the tension between structure and change. Visitors can control the lighting to reveal different details and perspectives. The shifts in illumination mirror the way self-perception evolves and memory, imperfection, and transformation shape who we are over time.
