Lulwa Alsalem

I am an audiovisual designer from Kuwait. In my work, I explore themes of culture, identity, and the human experience through sound and visual storytelling. I am especially interested in the ways art and music can open up conversations across cultures. My thesis project, Into The Western World, is an immersive installation that looks at the complex relationship between East and West. It centers on two fictional figures—each misunderstood in the other’s world—inviting reflection on cultural exchange and miscommunication. The piece is set in al-diwan, a traditional gathering space, where a symbolic chess game plays out between the two characters. A custom trip-hop soundtrack weaves together Eastern and Western musical influences, creating a shared space where both cultures coexist and interact. With this work I wanted to break down cultural barriers and encourage cross-cultural dialogue in an increasingly globalized society.
