Fashion Studies (MA)

Advising

Where were you born, and where did you grow up?
I was born in Tianjin, China, and I grew up in Vancouver, Canada.

What course or project you’ve worked on is your favorite?
My favorite course was one I took in my first semester here called Fashion Identity and Body, taught by Paul Jobling, who is an amazing professor. It was fascinating to just listen to him, the discussions were facilitated very well, and everyone learned from one another. I especially enjoyed topics that dealt with costuming identity through fashion, and that has also inspired my thesis that deals with stage costuming.

How has Paris inspired you in your projects and classes?
Paris has inspired me to read my personal identity in a new light and calls me to explore the differences in societal norms between West Coast North America and central Europe. Being in Paris has also granted me the convenience to travel around Europe and see different cultures that are just a train ride away.
