Profile
Rebecca Cavanaugh is a decorative arts and design historian, specializing in the early 20th century in France. In addition to teaching, she has published articles for Metropolis Magazine and now works extensively as a freelance French-to-English translator, focusing on art and design texts for exhibitions (Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Musée Matisse, FIAC, IMEC…), art galleries and major publishing houses. Recent translations include Yamamoto & Yohji (2014); Louis Vuitton City Bags (2013); Roger Vivier (2013); and The Carmine Vault, a graphic novel by Fafi (2012), all published by Rizzoli New York
Cavanaugh is also a jazz vocalist, performing regularly in and around Paris. She has released two albums, "Looking Back" (2010) and "For All We Know" (2013) on Black and Blue Records, and is currently working on a new duo project called Wonder Room with composer and multi-instrumentalist Jason Domnarski.
She earned her Masters Degree in History of Decorative Arts and Design from Parsons The New School for Design in partnership with the Smithsonian's Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum.
